Wrapping up the BE 2004

« Back

ORLANDO, FLORIDA, USA — From the smooth registration process of over 2,000 Bentley users to the barrage of technical seminars and executive keynotes, the theme of the Bentley Empowered Conference 2004 was noticeable from the onset -the empowered nature of Bentley users in improving the world's infrastructure and quality of life. In this article, MicroStation Today reviews the conference's major events and highlights.

Colonel Martin's keynote
Colonel Gregg F. Martin, who recently commanded the 130th Engineer Brigade of the Army's 5th Corps in Iraq, discussed the special engineering challenges his brigade and fellow combat engineers faced on the road to Baghdad and how they overcame them. In doing so, Colonel Martin instilled a sense of purpose, commitment and excellence - qualities to which many engineering professionals could relate when faced with the adverse and complex challenges encountered in AEC projects. His accounts of events and successes in Iraq gave the audience a new perspective on the number of positive accomplishments by the U.S.-led forces that are changing the lives of the people of Iraq for the better, and yet are rarely mentioned by the news media. The Colonel's remarks served as an example of the importance of infrastructure and of those who work in that field, like many of the conference attendees.

One-on-one with Keith Bentley
The highly anticipated "Standardizing with V8" seminars were another highlight of the event. The seminars reviewed the core technologies of Bentley's newly released 2004 edition of MicroStation V8, illustrating the processes and productivity advantages that it makes available. Following each of the sessions, Keith Bentley along with other Bentley consultants offered one-on-one feedback and recommendations on how MicroStation professionals can use V8's innovations to standardize processes and gain workflow efficiency at their companies.

Training — part of the empowerment strategy
Affirming Bentley's commitment to making its yearly conference the premier Bentley training event were the 400+ training sessions and technology updates offered throughout the event. Catering to a multi-disciplined audience, a large number of the training sessions and keynotes were segmented into discipline-specific agendas. These agendas included tracks for building, civil, geospatial and plant design professionals. Rounding the conference's personal touch, Industry Roundtable sessions allowed design professionals to share best practices, invaluable insights and success stories with like-minded individuals working in the same industry sector in an informal setting.

Receptions — empowering good times and networking opportunities
Of special interest to exhibit hall vendors and attendees were the conference's reception gatherings. Whether it was the Welcome Reception, the BE Awards Excellence Reception or the Bentley Unplugged Reception, the events packed the halls with attendees willing to share their anecdotes, triumphs and challenges with one another and vendors alike. The combination of live music, stupendous food, an open bar and a lively bunch of Bentley enthusiasts made for good times, good fun and excellent networking opportunities, the likes of which are likely not be seen until next year's Bentley Empowered Conference.
