CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, USA — Axiom is proud to announce the newest addition to its ever-expanding list of MicroStation V8 utilities, Title Block Manager for V8. This title block management system will help MicroStation V8 users ensure that the look and content of their title blocks remains consistent. Also, Title Block Manager for V8 is a time-saving tool which automates batch changes to title blocks and makes large scale sheet re-numbering tasks a quick, five-minute job.

One of the most remarkable features of Title Block Manager for V8 is its ability to process title blocks in models.

The V8 design file consists of models. Models are separate design environments stored within one V8 design file. In essence, a V8 design file is a repository of models. There are two types of models: sheet models and design models. Some V8 design files only consist of a single model called the "default model," which is a design model that is automatically created when the file is created. Others contain multiple models. Using more than one model allows a MicroStation shop or project team to divide up the design into logical components and yet keep all the design work in one design file.

Components of Title Block Manager for V8
Title Block Manager for V8 is a complete title block management solution for V8 users. Title Block Manager for V8 is made up of two components: Title Block Administrator for V8 and Title Block Client for V8. Title Block Administrator for V8 is utilized for all batch processing and for the initial creation of each title block cell, and Title Block Client for V8 is used for placing and modifying title blocks cells in a design file.

Title Block Manager for V8 also offers the capability to process multiple title blocks in multiple design and sheet models, process title block data stored in tags and create detailed reports of all actions performed by the utility.

Title Block Manager for V8 creates a link when title block cells are placed in MicroStation design files to an Excel spreadsheet (also referred to as the "editable database"). Once a title block cell is placed in a design file, Title Block Manager for V8, while performing the action "Update database from selected design files," extracts the information contained inside the title block cells in all the selected design files and creates an Excel spreadsheet.

"Update database from selected design files" extracts information from existing title block cells and tags in order to create Title Block Manager for V8's editable database (Excel spreadsheet).

Title Block Manager for V8 creates separate rows records for each design file. A separate record is also created for each model in each design file. The data in the spreadsheet is editable. After performing the action "Update selected design files from database," all of the changes made in the spreadsheet are then reflected in the selected design files. Thus, information such as "sheet number" or "page number" can be easily modified in dozens of design files when new sheets are added mid-project.

This bi-directional synchronization between title block cells and a spreadsheet allows users to bulk modify their MicroStation title blocks quickly and easily.

"Update selected design files from database" will update the title block information in multiple design files.

In addition to processing information stored in title block cells, Title Block Manager for V8 also extracts existing tag information stored in design files. When processing tag information, a separate database record is created for each tag set processed. All tag information placed into the database can then be edited in batch just like the information extracted from title block cells.

Title Block Manager for V8, while having the capability to process multiple design files at the same time, has the added capability in MicroStation V8 to process multiple models simultaneously.

Title Block Manager for V8 gives users the flexibility of selecting which models to process.

This added V8 "Models" functionality ensures that only the models the user selects will be processed. Multiple sheet and design models may be processed at the same time along with multiple design files.

Once the information is extracted and is put into the spreadsheet, the spreadsheet acts as a detailed report. Database columns such as "Design File Path" and "Last File Update" may be used by CAD managers to determine vital information about the status and location of all title blocks and design files in any given project.

"Last file Update" column gives an accurate report of the exact date and time at which the title blocks were last updated.

Title Block Manager for V8 also creates separate ASCII report files for each action it undertakes. For example, "Update database from selected design files" report gives detailed information on each title block cell or tag set found in each design or model processed. "Update selected design files from database" creates a report describing each change made to the title blocks in the database. This report lists what the previous value was and what it has been changed to.

Summary
With the capability to process multiple title blocks in multiple design files and models, process existing tag information in design files, and create highly detailed reports of all actions performed by the utility, Title Block Manager for V8 is a complete title block management solution. Title Block Manager for V8 will completely automate the updating of title block information in any CAD shop, which will certainly save hours of time.
