Global Workspace Manager
Manage every MicroStation workspace without leaving your desk!
Now available for V8i! Request more information » | View Online Demonstration »
- Tired of trying to figure out which workstations are running which version of MicroStation?
- Losing time because you have to personally walk (or drive) to inspect the workspaces of each of your designers?
- Production time being wasted because the wrong workspace settings were used on some machines?
Global Workspace Manager allows CAD managers to set up, monitor and change MicroStation workspaces and workspace configuration settings on multiple workstations from a single location!
Until now, managing MicroStation configuration variables has been a nightmare. CAD managers have had no easy way to ensure that MicroStation workspace configurations were properly set up and maintained. They either had to rely on each user to correctly set up and maintain his or her own workstation or walk around to each user’s workstation and manually set up and maintain its configuration.
Even if CAD managers use a protected, central network workspace, they still don’t know who’s working on which project, when a project was last worked on or even which version of MicroStation is installed on which workstation. With this new add-on, all that is about to change.
Using Global Workspace Manager, a CAD manager can set up and manage all the workspaces on all the computers associated with a given project. For example, a CAD manager can view which cell libraries are being used by each workstation. All workspace configuration variables can be monitored and modified from this interface. The CAD manager can monitor and control workstations anywhere in the world without leaving his desk.
With Global Workspace Manager, CAD managers are now able to not only analyze and control MicroStation workspaces, but they can also see who’s working on which project and which version of MicroStation they’re using. CAD managers can analyze, monitor and control a few workstations — or a few thousand workstations — all from a single location.
Benefits of using Global Workspace Manager
This new breed of enterprise software gives CAD managers the power to:
- View all configuration variables or specific configuration variables by workstation, location, project or any combination of these.
- View or bulk modify the configuration variables on one workstation, all workstations or any number of selected workstations.
- Ensure that all workstations are using the most up-todate resources such as cells, fonts, dgnlibs, and linestyles.
- Easily find exactly why one workstation or workspace is behaving oddly or different from the others.
- Monitor who is working on each specific project, verify that the correct project or company standard CAD resources are being used for each project and make needed changes to the workspaces without ever having to leave his desk.
- Eliminate wasted time by bringing the monitoring and management of workspaces on all workstations into one location.
- Copy an entire project along with all its resources (such as seed files, dgnlibs, linestyles, fonts, and color tables) to another network server or to an individual workstation.
- Show which MicroStation versions are installed on each workstation.
- See when projects were last worked on and who worked on each project.

Global Workspace Manager consists of two separate applications: a manager’s console (for the CAD manager to use) and a client (which resides on each MicroStation workstation). The manager’s console receives MicroStation workspace configuration data about each workstation that is running the client. The manager’s console has the ability to view, sort, filter, group, analyze and modify all the workspace configuration variables on the workstations. These capabilities allow CAD managers to view all configuration variables or specific configuration variables by workstation, location, project or any combination of these. The manager’s console has the ability to view or bulk modify the configuration variables on one workstation, all workstations or any number of selected workstations. CAD managers can also ensure that all workstations are using the most up-to-date resources such as cells, fonts, dgnlibs, and linestyles. The manager’s console also provides powerful analysis tools to help the CAD manager pinpoint exactly why one workstation or workspace is behaving oddly or different from the others.
Global Workspace Manager can monitor the workspace settings on every MicroStation workstation at your site or even in your whole company. Every change to a MicroStation workstation’s User, Project or Interface setting is tracked in a central database. You will be able to see — and even change — every single MicroStation configuration variable, in every single workspace, on every single MicroStation workstation at your site or even your whole company, without leaving your desk!
Global Workspace Manager client runs on each workstation that will be monitored by the manager’s console. The client sits quietly in the background, until the user makes a change to a workspace component. For example, when a user selects a different user, project or interface, the client notifies the manager’s console of the change.
The process of the client updating the manager’s console when changes occur ensures that the Global Workspace Manager manager’s console always has the most current workspace information from each workstation. This lets the CAD manager monitor who is working on each specific project, verify that the correct project or company standard CAD resources are being used for each project and make needed changes to the workspaces without ever having to leave his desk.

MicroStation Acceleration Garage

MicroStation Acceleration Garage
has rescued us many times. When repairing
corrupt MicroStation files, I dont even
bother with EdG anymore. I use FileFixer
instead. It fixes our design files quickly
and automatically. RefManager has provided
level symbology consistency throughout hundreds
of our design files.
It saves us time and money. Having RefManager
do this is cheaper than having to pay an operator
to make these modifications in each file
on average, each of our jobs run about 240
MicroStation files! Id say this capability
alone pays for the Toolkit.
Plus, Microsoft Office Importer is
the best thing Ive found for importing
text into MicroStation. It does the import
without much effort on my part. MicroStation
OLE (an Object Linking and Embedding technology)
frequently corrupts MicroStation files
Microsoft Office Importer doesnt.
This is one of my favorites utilities in Toolkit.

All in all, MicroStation Productivity
Toolkit is a good deal. I hate EdG. FileFixer
is a lot more convenient because it runs on
its own. Even though I run all my files through
EdG when I first get them, I always run FileFixer
on them afterwards because it fixes things
that EdG does not. With EdG, I have to do
individual operations for finding and repairing
errors. With FileFixer, its click,
click, bang and its all done. FileFixer
and SpellCheckerPlus alone are definitely
worth Toolkits money.

I find MicroStation Productivity
Toolkit very useful. Its tools get a lot
of use around here. I use FileFixer
the most. It always fixes our problem elements
quickly and easily. CellManager consolidates
our cell libraries, gets rid of duplicate
cells and overall organizes our cell libraries.
SpellCheckerPlus gets used a lot too.
I use it every time before sending a job out
to a client.
Before we got the Toolkit, this never
got done. DgnCompare is another useful
utility. Once I needed to compare a very old
drawing with a newer version of it, and all
I had to do to see the differences between
the two was to look at the design file report
that DgnCompare outputs. MicroStation
Productivity Toolkit has made MicroStation
a lot easier to use.

My experience with MicroStation
Productivity Toolkit has been very good.
This is our third version and we use it a
lot. We started first with FileFixer
and now we use it all the time. We used to
get about half a dozen major corruptions a
year before we got FileFixer. Since
we use it as a prevention method against file
corruption, we no longer get major crashes.
Its just amazing. I was the guy who
had to do all the fixing with EdG before.
Even though this gave me a very comprehensive
knowledge of MicroStation file format, Id
spend 3, 5 or even 8 hours at a time trying
to figure what was wrong with a file. With
FileFixer, I fix files in only minutes.
Ive also used Global File Changer
and RefManager and have found these
utilities to be extreme timesavers. Our initial
investment in MicroStation Productivity
Toolkit has paid for itself many times
over. In a production environment, we have
big demands on our time. Toolkit absolutely
saves us time. It has made it much more profitable
for us to fix things in house than to send
them out

Im
very happy that I have purchased MicroStation
Productivity Toolkit. Ive just begun
to work with its different tools. Duplicate
Element Remover is a great application.
It removes up to 40% of useless vectors from
the MicroStation files that come from our manufacturing
department. This saves an incredible amount
of time when reconstructing cells in the processed
files. Also, Ive used SpecChecker
to reorganize the symbology of elements in many
of our design files. This saves me 85% of the
work I would have had to do myself!

Alabama DOT owns MicroStation
Productivity Toolkit, and I just love FileFixer.
It comes in very handy. It fixes files automatically
90% of the time. We could get by
without it, but wed have to apologize
a whole lot.

Toolkit
is very useful and definitely worth more than
the price! Its great that Axiom keeps
adding utilities to it for free. Were
getting more bang for the buck.

Since EdG is somewhat of
a pain, Axioms FileFixer is a better
solution. The users here really appreciate the
ease of FileFixer, but do yourself a
favor and buy the MicroStation Productivity
Toolkit. It is used by the city of San Diego.

I
use Toolkit everyday and its invaluable.
A problem will come up and Ill say, I
bet we can solve that with Toolkit
and we usually do. FileFixer, Global File
Changer, CellManager and RefManager in particular
save us tons of time. For example, we recently
had thousands of reference files that got messed
up and would have taken at least two weeks to
fix. RefManager fixed them in four hours.
L.C., Georgetown,

The new products that are
constantly added to Toolkit are great.
Axiom really has some great ideas. We use FileFixer,
RefMerge and InstantDiskSpace all the time.
T.M., Ottawa,

I
am very impressed with Toolkit. We once
had a big project that involved converting 130
documents from MicroStation to AutoCAD and we
were not getting a clean transformation. RefMerge
and RefWriter fixed the problem and gave
us the result we needed.

I like the tools in MicroStation Acceleration Garage, particularly FileFixer.
I use it a lot. FileFixer has saved me
many hours of work. With FileFixer, I
don't have to go into the archive or rebuild
an entire drawing from scratch. FileFixer
alone makes MicroStation Acceleration Garageworth it!"

"Garage
is an important part of the system we use within

"Day & Zimmermann have a commitment
to be at the leading edge of the Process Consulting
Industry. We employ a full time Innovations
Manager and as part of this initiative we
decided to invest in the MicroStation Acceleration Garage to establish whether it would
be of benefit to the company. During the evaluation,
tools were identified as possibly being of
use to the company. These were Cell Manager,
Spec Checker, Global File Changer, Instant
Disk Space and FileFixer. As a
result of the evaluation it was recommended
that the use of the tools be developed."

"At Washington Group we had been using
RefManager and FileFixer for
some time with success. In one case we moved
1000+ structural drawings from a Novell server
to a Windows NT server and were able to preserve
the reference file attachments. FileFixer
was also frequently used help us resolve
common problems such as zingers and double-elements.
We were then faced with creating merged drawings
for our clients and found that the merge included
with MicroStation has some issues including
associative dimensions in scaled reference
file attachments. We found that these problems
are resolved in RefMerge. We were sufficiently
impressed with Garage as a whole that
we purchased a corporate license and have
made it available to all our users.
We also appreciate the pro-active attitude
of the company in their sponsorship of web-based
technical updates and training sessions and
the like. We expect to be a customer for some
time to come."

"I wanted to thank all of you at Axiom
for your assistance over the last few months.
I've thrown a lot of questions and issues
at you and in every instance I got a quick
and accurate response. Garage has
been an incredible time saver. I was able
to correct the level symbology on over 600
MicroStation files in a matter of three or
four days with Global File Changer.
I repaired all of DuPont's cell libraries
with a combination of FileFixer and
CellManager in less than a week. Both
of these tasks would have taken considerably
longer, in the case of the seed files months,
without Garage."

"We use MicroStation Acceleration Garage just about everyday, whether it
is RefWriter, Global File Changer or
RefManager. I use them all and found
the whole Garage is a major asset
for this company. It has aided in the productivity
of this company from something like changing
